This week, May 15 through 21, 2022, promotes awareness of—and appreciation for—the critical work of professionals who manage and maintain the vast assortment of health technology found in healthcare delivery organizations.
As written in its annual proclamation, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, says:
Whereas, as medical technology advances, healthcare facilities must keep pace by providing
quality, well-trained professionals capable of understanding the complexity of medical
equipment operation and applications; and
Whereas, the complexity of medical technology today and in the future makes it essential that
those individuals responsible for the care, safety and accuracy of this equipment are recognized
as an invaluable resource to the healthcare industry; and
Whereas, biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, and other medical technology
professionals uniquely serve patients, the medical community, and new technology
development to improve the quality of today’s healthcare; and
Whereas, these professionals research, recommend, install, inspect, and repair medical devices
and other complicated medical systems, as well as advise and train others concerning the safe
and effective use of medical devices, thereby controlling healthcare costs and improving patient
safety; and
Whereas, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is a unique
alliance of almost 7,000 members united by a common goal to increase the understanding and
beneficial use of healthcare instrumentation; and
Whereas, AAMI’s Technology Management Council (TMC) seeks to advance the interests of
biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, and other medical technology
professionals; and
Therefore, AAMI’s TMC hereby proclaims May 15-21, 2022, Healthcare Technology Management Week.To celebrate, AAMI is hosting three free informational webinars, which are: Constructing a Sustainable HTM Cybersecurity Program at UHS, Tuesday, May 17 from 1 to 2; Norton Healthcare’s HTM Journey to ANSI/AAMI/ISO 13485 Certification, Thursday, May 19 from 1 to 2; and The Mission of the Medical Device Servicing Community, Friday, May 20 from 1 to 2. Hello Students,
As students pursuing degrees and/or certificates in healthcare fields, we would like to pose the following questions:
1. If you had a temperature or were feeling sick to your stomach. What would you do? Maybe you would take something over the counter or have some tea. But what if what you were doing wasn’t making you feel any better? What would you do?
Many of you are probably thinking I would go to my doctor or go to the local immediate care to see a doctor depending on the severity or length of time that you were feeling ill.
2. What would you do if you are feeling down or anxious? Who would you talk to or what would you do?
Addressing and taking care of our mental health is just as important as us keeping up with our daily hygiene. However, some of us may feel like talking to a counselor could be taboo. Unfortunately, to some people there is still a stigma around seeking counseling.
If your car had a flat tire, would you keep driving around with a flat tire?
The pandemic has been extremely tough on everyone. It’s time for us to give permission to ourselves to feel it’s okay to seek counseling if you’re feeling down or anxious or not well. If it’s okay to go see the doctor when we have sore throat and wonder if we have Covid-19, it should be okay for us to seek counseling if we are not feeling mentally well.
NC offers MYSSP app, which you can download to your phones to speak to a Licensed Professional Counselor and/or Chat (IM) with them if you need someone to talk to. The College believes that it’s important for all of our students to be able to take care of their Mental Health, so this is free to our students. It’s a great resource and I would encourage anyone who needs to talk to someone to download the MYSSP app and give it a try.Access support anytime, anywhere by:
