Northwestern's Co-Curricular Spotlight Topic for the Month of June: LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
Hello Students,
June marks start of Pride LGBTQIA+ Month. Pride Month first
began in 1970 in honor of “the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan” (https://www.loc.gov/lgbt-pride-month/about/). Then in 1994 President Bill
Clinton renamed Pride Month to Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. And in 2009
President Barack Obama Administration changed the title of the month again to
make in more inclusive and he changed it to LGBT Pride Month. Lastly, in
2021 President Joseph Biden signed a declaration to officially rename LGBT
Pride Month to LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.
